Cassandre (Adolphe Mouron) remains the giant of 20th Century posterists and Normandie is his tour de force. At the height of art deco, France built the world’s most modern and finest ocean liner, Normandie. Between 1935 and 1939 she made nearly 140 transatlantic round trip voyages between Le¬†Havre and New York City. She earned the Blue Riband as the fastest transatlantic liner on her maiden voyage. Her art deco interior was said to be the finest afloat. Advertising the Normandie fell to a series of posterists, but Cassandre, created the most famous and most iconic vision. This is the 1995¬†printing of the poster, by Distil, and with the cooperation of the Cassandre estate.
