A common theme of World War I posters was making the world safe for women and children. WW I was the war where chivalry met modern technology thus defending the homeland was an emotion that impacted many. This poster by Henry Raleigh promotes the sale of Liberty Bonds, issued by the government as a means to supplement funding for the war effort.


Enlist in the Navy

A recruitmeenlistnavynt poster for the US Navy in World War I. The Navy was the first to fight and actively recruited men throughout the country to join the service. This image encourages bankers and bakers, golfers and laborers to join the Boys in Blue. Of particular note in this poster is the ship in the background – it is either the Battleship Pennsylvania or the Battleship Arizona. The Pennsylvania went on to be the flagship of the Pacific Fleet while the Arizona was sunk at Pearl Harbor where it remains today.
