In 1936, when it hosted both the Winter and Summer Olympics, Germany embarked on a campaign to promote tourism. Focusing on each region of the country posters and travel guides were created and distributed widely and in many languages. This poster, in French, for the Black Forest was done by a young Friedel Dzubas, who later imagrated to America in 1939 and became recognized as one of the pre-iminent abstract artists of the 20th century. This poster was one of several that Dzubas created for the 1936 campaign when he was just 21.
