2014 US Open

In 2014, the USGA did the double, by hosting both the Men’s and Women’s US Open’s over the famed Pinehurst (NC) Number 2 course. Pinehurst was established in the early 1900’s by a New Englander looking for a place for a nice retirement community. Donald Ross was hired to layout some golf courses, and Number 2 has long been recognized as his American masterpiece. Donald Ross was a Scotsman from Dornoch in the Sunderland region but spent most of his career in the United States. The Men’s Open was won by ┬áMartin Kaymer of Germany while the Women’s Open was won by Michelle Wie of the USA.
